Undoubtedly, Internet is giving us plenty of unique and very valuable opportunities. By using world wide web, we can find valuable information or advice, get help or psychological support, read books, watch movies and videos, learn new things and demonstrate our talents, find new friends and get connected with the old ones, etc. etc. However, sometimes we tend to abuse Internet and try to do things which can actually be harmful to our health and well being. This includes not only online gambling or watching some dirty websites, but also trying to do online diagnosis and use internet healing tips. According to the findings of a recent study, every one of two modern women is constantly using web sites like Dr.Google instead of consulting a real doctor, that very often results in misdiagnosing and mistreatment.
Many experts support the idea that the concept of self healing is dangerous in its core, and it is essential to always visit a health care specialist to find out what is wrong with you and what are the best ways to treat the problem. However, as a recent survey by the experts of Balance Activ has shown, about a half of modern ladies always turn to internet and try online diagnosis tools instead of visiting their doctors and using their services. 1000 women from the main cities of the UK participated the survey, and the findings of this study were published in the leading British mass media, as an attempt to attract as much as possible public attention to the problems of internet healing and the dangers of incorrect online diagnosis.
The survey has shown that every one in four today’s women prefers using online diagnosis tool and very often buys over-the-counter medications or treatments without any additional check out with a pharmacist. Every one in four women also reported about a habit of trying to do self diagnosis and trying to treat the medical problem on their own (by using internet healing techniques or the recommendations of their friends and close people who are not health care specialists) before actually going to visit their doctors. About 20 per cent of the women who participated in the survey accepted that usually self diagnosis by internet leads to buying incorrect medications and wasting their time and money, and 10 per cent of women admitted that they suffered from side effects of buying incorrect medications.
20 per cent of women reported that from time to time they suspect having a serious disease, and breast cancer has turned out to be the most common mistakenly suspected disease, followed by asthma, thrush, and elevated blood pressure. According to the findings of the survey, self diagnosis and seeking for online help is most likely to follow when women experience such symptoms as headaches, depression, insomnia and other sleep disorders, itching, joint and muscle pains, hair loss, skin problems, and so on. These health conditions are considered relatively safe to be diagnosed and treated by using internet sites and web resources like Dr. Google. In addition, online diagnosis and internet healing are also common in women who have embarrassing health conditions and problems like hemorrhoid, menstrual irregularities, and so on.
