During the survey, the records and medical histories of 7,625 people aged 60+ were analyzed by the specialists from the University of Bordeaux, France. The records allowed categorizing people as “active”, “moderate” or “indifferent” users of olive oil in the daily diet. Besides, such factors as body mass, daily activities and others were considered. It turned out that those who consume olive oil (for salad dressing, cooking or simply on bread) have up to 41% lower chances to suffer from stroke later in the life.
“Stroke is so common in older people and olive oil would be an inexpensive and easy way to help prevent it. Our research suggests that a new set of dietary recommendations should be issued to prevent stroke in people 65 and older,” underlines Dr Cécilia Samieri, an author of the study and the report published recently in the journal of the American Academy of Neurology. In the UK, every year about 120,000 people suffer from stroke. By adding olive oil to your daily diet, you can prevent arterial clogging, and it is very important that this product can be considered a cheap and affordable alternative to other various methods for stroke prevention.
