Winter is the time when we all tend to become a little slower, a little lazier and more melancholic. We have a very slight decline in our body functions as we receive less sunlight (Vitamin D) and fresh fruit and veggies (all important nutrients). In winter the outside temperature is lower than ever, that’s why sometimes we feel cold. As a result, our body starts storing some amounts of fat, and that is why in spring when we jump on the scale, very ofter we see that  we’ve got extra pounds. Almost everyone is familiar with this situation. Do you know how to avoid unwanted weight gain in winter?

1. Adjust your diet and food choices according to the season. Do not look for frozen berries or expensive imported tropical fruit. In winter, it is very important to eat warm meals like various soups, vegetable stews, baked and grilled meat with cheese and veggies, lasagna, roast beef and everything you like eating warm. Such type of diet can not only make you feel warm but also will allow you to feel full for a longer period of time.

2. Increase your consumption of Omega 3 fatty acids. To avoid unwanted weight gain in winter specialists recommend adding to your daily diet all possible natural sources of Omega 3 fatty acids. Those include all types of oily fish (salmon, cod, herring and so on), as well as flaxseed, eggs, walnuts and other natural foods rich in Omega 3. Experts suggest that this type of acids can not only protect us against a stroke or heart attach, but also play a role in uplifting our spirit.

3. Remember that winter is the greatest time for drinking plenty of herbal teas. Start your day with a cup of your favorite black or green tea, which will warm you up and help to keep awake in dark winter days. During your day, drink several cups of herbal teas like chamomile tea, peppermint tea, ginger root tea, sage tea (do not forget to add a good amount of lemon juice to it) and other herbal teas which can help ward off the common cold and all its symptoms. Use aromatic herbal teas (for example, jasmine green tea works best for me) to relax and keep away from stresses.

Weight Gain In Winter4. Exercise. Doing lots of physical activities is important at any time of year, but in winter exercises can help your body in generating extra energy for warming up and keeping awake. Just turn on your favorite music and dance! This simple exercise will warm you up, make you feel happier and help you cope with winter stresses and depression.

5. Keep your sexual life alive. Having a good fun in bed is among the best types of physical activities which can be recommended in winter. Healthy and regular sexual life is the best way of calorie burning and avoiding unnecessary weight gain in winter. Share your emotions and your love with your partner.

6. Get enough of sleep on a regular basis. A proper rest and sufficient amounts of sleep are crucial because a lack of sleep is closely linked to hormone imbalances and slowed down metabolism. Also, some specialists say that a lack of proper rest can cause overeating which is a direct way to weight gain.

7. Avoid negative effects of winter depression and stresses. Figure out what stress management techniques like outside activities, spending time with your friends, watching comedy movies, knitting, aromatherapy, yoga and so on, work best for you.
