A lot of us are currently in pursuit of the goal to lose weight, lower the risks of many dangerous diseases and live a healthier life. Following a healthy low calorie diet is one of the greatest ways to put off weight and improve the chances to live a long and happy life. Some people change their whole nutrition plan: they stop eating the foods like french fries or doughnuts (rich in saturated fat), drastically decrease the foods containing while flour and sugar, and add more or fresh fruit and veggies to their diet. But for some of us it can be really hard to give up eating the foods they like. Fortunately, there is a way for them, too. Have you ever heard about the advantages of mono-diets?
A mono-diet is a special nutrition plan based on only one (rarely two-three related) foods. Many specialists actually consider mono-diets a type of fasting, which can help us lose weight and encourage our general well-being. There are a great variety of mono-diets, starting from pineapple or kiwifruit mono-diets and ending up with rice or even chocolate mono-diets. Probably, the most popular ones are apple mono-diet (eating 2-3 pounds of apples a day), potato mono-diet (eating about 2 pounds of potato a day), tomato mono-diet (sating 1-2 pounds of tomatoes a day), fish mono-diet (eating 1-1.4 pounds of fish), and many others.
If you like oranges, I think you can be fine with eating them all day long, so you can choose an orange mono-diet. Enjoy eating grapefruits? Then a grapefruit mono-diet is for you, and it is considered one of the most effective ones. This opportunity to choose a diet based on the food you like most, along with quite good effectiveness, are the most important advantages of mono-diets. However, it is essential to remember that to maximize the effects of a mono-diet, it is possible to use it only for 2-3 days. All nutritionists are sure that mono-diets can be very harmful in a long-term perspective.
Experts recommend using mono-diets once or twice per week for 3-4 weeks. For example, a weekend can be an ideal time for using a mono-diet for your health. Depending on what type of food you’ve selected, there can be daily limitations on the amounts of the food to be consumed. For example, the foods like apples, tomatoes or grapefruit can be consumed virtually in unlimited amounts (within reason, of course), but if you prefer using grape, cheese, or other foods rich in carbs or glucose, you should limit your daily consumption of this food. It is reported that by using mono-diets it is possible to lose up to 10-12 pounds. Also, a sufficient water consumption while using a mono-diet is essential.
Remember: mono-diets are not recommended for regular use!Author Info: Hi! My name is Carla and I am a 5th year medical student at HYMS.
